Have you ever found yourself stuck in a situation where there is nothing but negative influences around you and although you try to ignore it or dodge it, eventually you find yourself caught up in it? Obviously, when you’re in a situation that disrupts your personal mood cycle and causes you emotional imbalance, the best thing to do is to leave. However, we cannot always leave a situation, especially if it is work related or home related.
The first thing I recommend doing is what I call, step back, define and depersonalize. Impartially assess the situation. Who is emitting the negativity and why are they doing it? Many times, although what seems to be directed toward you, in actuality, has nothing to do with you at all. Rather, you become the outlet. Depersonalizing yourself from the situation gives you an opening to a very valuable resource – your inner resolve, which allows you the opportunity to regain control of yourself and also to reorganize your strength and vitality. Seeing a situation for what it is or viewing an individual from an outsider perspective allows you restore your personal ground.
So, how do you manipulate the negative energy around you into positive, knowing you cannot change a person or change the situation? The answer will not surprise you and in actuality, is really quite simple. For every negative vibe you receive, douse it with a positive charge. For example, Rhonda comes over to you and blasts out a rude comment such as, “Your outfit looks really stupid.” Instead of a defensive remark, you simply respond with, “Do you think so? Thanks for letting me know. By the way, your hair looks great today.”
Simple gestures of positivity suffocate negativity and restore healthy balance and peace.
